We've been over here in Kadodara, Surat for a good while now making bricks. It’s mostly just us getting the clay ready and firing the kilns day after day. It gets pretty dusty out here, but that’s just how the work is when you're dealing with earth. Most people around Surat know where we are because of all the trucks coming in and out of the yard. We don't do anything fancy, just make sure the bricks are hard enough to build with. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry them out, especially when it rains unexpected, but we manage somehow. The stack of bricks in the back is always changing. It's a small crew of us here. We mostly just focus on getting the orders out to the local builders who stop by. My father used to say that as long as people are building houses, we’ll have work to do. We don't have a big office or anything, just the shed and the kilns. If you come by Kadodara, you’ll see the smoke from the chimney. We try to keep things simple. No point in making things complicated when you're just dealing with mud and fire. We spend a lot of time checking the heat in the furnace. It’s hot work, especially in the summer months, but it's what we know. We just keep our heads down and keep making more bricks. We've seen the area change a lot lately, but our work stays the same. That’s about all there is to it here at Jai Jalaram Bricks Co.
