Gilly Gilly Icecream Parlour

Being on Anand Mahal Road 7 means there is always someone passing by. Gilly Gilly Icecream Parlour has been here long enough that the neighbors know us. I start the day by wiping down the counters and checking the fridge seals. If the seal isn't tight, the ice builds up and it’s a total pain to scrape off. The road outside is always under some kind of repair, so there is a lot of dust. I keep a wet cloth handy at all times. We have those bright lights that attract bugs at night, so I have to be careful with the door. Some families come in after dinner. The kids always argue over which color they want. I just wait and let them decide because they won't listen anyway. There’s a small clock on the wall that runs five minutes fast, but I haven't bothered to change it. It makes me feel like I’m ahead of schedule. The floor has a chip near the corner from when we moved a heavy freezer three years ago. It’s a quiet life mostly. Just serving scoops and making sure the change is right in the drawer. When the weather gets really hot, I don't sit down at all. It’s just one person after another. Then when it rains, I just sit and watch the water run down the street. The plastic chairs we have out front are getting a bit old.
