I have this small shop in the Shivam Apartments. It’s Shop Number One, right at the Kumbharsheri Naka in Mahidharpura. If you know where the Kira Bazar Main Road is, we are just a short walk from there. Mahidharpura is always buzzing because of the diamond market nearby. I get a lot of workers coming in during their break for a quick shave. The shop is quite narrow. I only have room for three chairs. I keep the walls covered with some posters of different hairstyles, though most people just ask for the same short cut every time. The sink in the back leaks a tiny bit, so I keep a bucket under it. It’s just one of those things you get used to. I’ve been cutting hair since I was a teenager. This shop is my pride, even if it’s small. I don't use any of those expensive booking apps. You just show up and wait your turn. There’s a bench outside for when it gets crowded inside. I try to keep the scissors sharp and the towels clean. That’s the main thing. The light from the street comes in through the door, and I usually keep it open to get a breeze. It’s a simple, honest place. I don’t try to be something I’m not. People know me, and I know them. That’s how it works here.
