Bharat Dairy Sweets

Bharat Dairy Sweets is our little shop located in Hajira, Andheri East 1. We’ve been here serving the neighborhood for a long time now. Every morning starts very early, around five, when the fresh milk arrives from the suppliers. Big refrigerators are needed to keep the curd, milk, and lassi cold. The shelves are filled with different kinds of sweets like barfi and gulab jamun that we make right here in the back. Since it’s a family business, you’ll often see my wife or my son helping behind the counter during peak hours. The smell of boiling milk is always in the air, which I’ve grown to like over the years. Space for tables is limited, so most people just buy their stuff and take it home. In the evenings, the shop gets quite crowded with people buying milk for the next day or a few snacks for their kids. The tile floor is a bit worn out from all the walking, but it gets scrubbed clean daily. Sometimes the special sweets run out before the day is over, especially during festival times. There isn't much advertising done; people just know we are here at number 1. An old scale is still used for some things, even though we have a digital one now for accuracy. It’s just a simple dairy where we try to provide what the local families need every day. The neighborhood has changed, but we are still here.
