Ambika Dairy & Sweets

Ambika Dairy & Sweets is our place on Varachha Road in the Vadgaon Budruk 32 area. It is one of those shops where the day starts very early, usually before the sun is even up. We have the milk crates arriving in the dark, and the smell of fresh dairy is the first thing you notice when you walk in. Most of our neighbors from Vadgaon Budruk come in for their daily milk packets or a bit of curd for lunch. We also spend a lot of time in the back making different kinds of sweets. The trays of barfi and peda are always being moved around to make room for fresh batches. During the festival seasons, the shop gets really hectic and we barely have room to stand. People know us as the spot on Varachha Road where they can get something quick for their tea. We don't have fancy decorations, just clean counters and lots of stainless steel containers. The floor is usually being mopped because milk spills happen more often than you would think. We have seen kids grow up in this neighborhood, coming in first for a small sweet and now coming in to buy milk for their own homes. It is a steady life, just dealing with the daily needs of the people living around us. We keep the fridge humming and the sweets fresh, and that is about it for our daily routine.
