Daily Etalaat Urdu Newspaper

Our newspaper, Daily Etalaat, is run from a smallish office in Ram Bagh Payeen, Sringar. It’s an Urdu publication, and we get the news out to the local community every single day. The PIN code is 190015 if you’re looking for us. The office is usually a bit of a mess with stacks of paper and ink stains on the desks. We have a small team of reporters and editors who spend their nights making sure the morning edition is ready. It’s not a fancy job. It’s a lot of late nights and cold mornings. Sometimes the printers act up or the internet goes down, and we have to scramble to get things finished. We write about what’s happening right here in Kashmir. People in the neighborhood often drop by to tell us stories or complain about something on their street. We listen to them because they are our readers. We don't have a big corporate board or fancy meetings. We just sit around a big table and decide what goes on the front page. The tea is always hot, and the conversations are always loud. It’s been this way for a long time. We just want to tell the truth about what’s going on around us in a way people can understand. It’s hard work but someone has to do it. The city never sleeps, and neither do we, really.
