Kamlesh Kadhai Centre

Down in Palam Colony, specifically at Rz-650/2 in Sadh Nagar, you’ll find the Kamlesh Kadhai Centre. This isn't a place for quiet contemplation. There’s almost always the sound of metal being worked. We mostly make kadhais, the kind of heavy-duty cooking pots that can handle a lot of heat and last for decades. The shop is open to the street, so we see everyone walking by and the neighborhood kids playing nearby. It gets very hot, especially when the furnace is going or when we are welding handles onto the larger pieces. We don’t have a fancy website or a sales team. People just know we are here. Sometimes a local restaurant owner comes in needing a custom size, and we talk it out right there on the shop floor. Our hands are usually black with soot and metal dust by the end of the shift. The floor is uneven, and the walls are darkened by years of smoke and work. We have a small stool where we take turns sitting down to have some water. It’s a traditional way of doing things, passed down and kept alive because people still need good cookware. We aren't trying to sell you a lifestyle; we are just making pots that work. It’s a tough job but there’s a certain satisfaction when a heavy kadhai is finished and ready to go.
