Aarcee

Aarcee is located right at the chowk in Hauz Khas, just across from the telephone exchange at F-31. We have been in this spot since before the neighborhood became so popular with all the cafes and boutiques. It is a small shop, and it can get pretty tight if more than a few people walk in at the same time. We sell mostly clothes and some fabrics. We don't have a board of directors or any fancy titles here. It is just a few of us who have known each other for a long time. My aunt was the one who really got things going, and now I handle the day-to-day stuff. We know the other shop owners on the block and the people who live nearby. It feels like a little community. We don't spend money on marketing or big signs. People usually find us because they have been coming here for years or they just happen to see us while they are out walking. The floor in the shop is a bit crooked and the shelves have some wear and tear, but it works for us. We don't have a mission statement. We just want to sell decent things and have enough left over to keep the shop running and the chai coming. We like the noise and the life of the chowk right outside our door. It is just a simple shop where we do our best to help people find what they need.
