Grand Hyatt

The Grand Hyatt here in Goa is located over by the University area, which is a bit away from the main crowded beaches. I have worked here for a few seasons now. It is a very large property with many different buildings spread out over the grounds. My job involves a lot of walking every day because the distance between the reception and some of the guest rooms is quite a bit. We have a lot of trees and open spaces that require constant care because the Goa humidity makes everything grow so fast. I see the sun come up over the water most mornings when I finish my night shift or start my early one. It’s a big operation with hundreds of people working in the kitchens, the gardens, and the laundry. Sometimes it feels like a small town rather than just a hotel. We get people coming for big weddings and others who are just here to sit by the pool for a week. I mostly stay in my section and make sure the supplies are topped up. The stone walls and the old-style building look nice but they need a lot of dusting because of the sea breeze. It gets really busy during the holidays and we all end up working extra hours to keep up. People think working at a place like this is a vacation but it is actually a lot of physical labor to keep everything looking decent.
