Samara Collections

Samara Collections is on the first floor of house 554/14 in Zakir Nagar, Okhla. We’re right near Ashoka Park, which is nice because you can see the trees from the window. The shop is filled with stacks of clothes and different fabrics. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, especially if we’re carrying new stock, but you get used to it. My sister and I run the place. She’s the one who knows which colors go together, while I handle the money and the bags. It’s a small room and it gets quite crowded when a whole family comes in to shop. We don’t have fancy changing rooms or bright spotlights. It’s just a simple space where we keep the things we sell. We focus on clothes that people actually want to wear every day or for small celebrations. Most of our customers live in Zakir Nagar and they’ve been coming to us since we opened. We don’t spend money on ads. Word of mouth works just fine for us. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use flashlights to show the embroidery on the suits. It’s just part of the experience here. We like the personal feel of being tucked away on the first floor. It feels more like a home than a store sometimes. We just keep working and folding every single day.
