Talk about the Siri Institutional Area and you will know it is a bit of a green spot in a very busy city. Our building is right there at number 5, near NIPCCD. We have been working at the National Institute Of Health And Family Welfare for a long time now. Most mornings start with a cup of tea and a quick look at the huge stack of files on the desks. It is a big, sturdy brick building that has seen a lot of people come and go for various training programs over the years. The stairs are a little steep if you are not used to them, and the hallways can get a bit dim in the evenings. During the summer, the trees outside help keep the heat down a bit, but it still gets quite warm in the afternoons. We spend most of our time on computers or in long meetings about public health and family welfare. It is not a flashy place with modern glass walls. Instead, it is full of old filing cabinets, heavy wooden desks, and people who have known each other for decades. Sometimes we take a walk over to the nearby markets in Hauz Khas for a quick snack when the work gets too heavy. Working in New Delhi 110016 means being in the middle of everything, but our little corner feels steady and quiet. We just keep things moving along, handling the paperwork and the schedules as they come.
