Our place is tucked away in Nizamuddin East at A/21. It’s a nice enough spot, though finding parking on this street can be a real headache some mornings. We have been working out of this space for years, and it’s filled to the brim with textiles. You walk in and there are stacks of wool and shawls almost reaching the ceiling in some corners. It’s not a showroom where everything is perfectly staged. Mostly, it’s just us packing boxes for orders or unfolding pieces to show someone who stopped by. The light in the afternoons hits the back room just right, which helps when we are trying to see the fine details on a weave. Sometimes the neighbor's dog barks at the delivery trucks, and we have to step out to clear the way. It’s a quiet neighborhood for the most part, which makes it easier to focus on the work. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just sitting at the big table sorting through patterns. It gets dusty, as you’d expect with all this fabric around, but we keep the brooms moving. It feels more like a home that turned into an office over time. We drink a lot of tea and try to keep up with the schedule, even when the heat in Delhi makes everyone want to slow down. It’s just how we run things here at Kashmir Loom Company Pvt. Ltd., with boxes piled up and the phone ringing.
