Das Enterprise

Our workshop is at C-93 on the Howrah Amta Road in West Dasnagar. It is a very busy stretch of road with trucks and buses going past all the time. You can always hear the sound of metal hitting metal or the grind of a machine coming from somewhere nearby. Our space is filled with tools, scraps of material, and half-finished projects. It is a bit messy but that’s how we work best. The walls are covered in grease and dust, and we have a big heavy door that stays open to let the fumes out. We have a small corner with a table where we keep the ledger and the phone. Most of the time we are on our feet moving things around. The light isn't the best, so we use some shop lamps to see what we are doing on the benches. We’ve been here in Dasnagar for a long time and know most of the other workshop owners on this block. We often borrow tools from each other or help out when someone has a heavy load to move. It is a tough environment but we are used to the noise and the heat. When the monsoon hits, the rain beats down on the tin roof so loud you can’t hear yourself talk. We just keep working through it. By the end of the day, we are usually pretty tired and covered in grime, but the work is done and that’s what matters.
