We started this because we knew the area needed a solid place for fisheries work. It’s a small operation, and we usually have a tea from next door while we go over the day’s plans. The location is pretty handy since people pass by it all the time on their way through the village. We work mostly with local fish stocks and helping folks set up their own ponds or manage what they already have. It gets hot out here, so we spend a lot of time making sure the water levels and temperatures are right for the fish. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit. Most of the time we are in boots and old clothes because you’re going to get wet or muddy at some point. We’ve lived in Solapur for a long time, so we understand how the weather affects the catch. Sometimes the rain is late and that makes everything harder, but we just deal with it as it comes. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except for when we’re loading up for a delivery. We just try to do right by the fish and the people who buy them.
