Up here in Himachal Pradesh, specifically in Kandrour in the Bilaspur district, things move a bit differently than the big cities. We are situated right in the village area, which is part of Tehsil Sadar. It’s a quiet spot most of the time, though you get the usual traffic passing through on the main road. The hotel is just a building where we try to keep the rooms tidy and make sure people have a place to sleep when they are traveling through these parts. We don't have a giant staff, just a few local guys who know the area well and help out with the bags or the kitchen. The air is better here, but the work is still there, especially with keeping the place clean from all the dust off the road. We spend a lot of time just managing the front desk and making sure the water heaters are working properly because it gets cold at night. Sometimes we sit outside when it’s slow and watch the clouds over the hills or talk to the neighbors. It’s not like those polished places in the center of Chandigarh, despite the name. We’re just a practical stop for anyone who finds themselves in this part of the world. Most of our guests are just passing through to somewhere else, so we keep things simple and try not to get in anyone's way while they rest up before their next drive.
