Our location is at Po. Hathwa, and things are a bit different here at Sainik School because of the way everything is run. There is a lot of focus on being on time and keeping things orderly, but behind the scenes, it’s still just a place where people work and live every day. The morning starts very early with drills and physical activity out on the big open grounds. You can hear the whistles and the marching feet from a good distance away if you’re awake. The buildings are old and have a certain solid feel to them, like they’ve been standing there for decades. We have long hallways that always seem to need a good sweep because of all the heavy boots coming through. The dining hall is a massive place where everyone gathers, and it gets incredibly loud when hundreds of people are eating at once. We spend a lot of time maintaining the uniforms and the equipment, as everything has its specific place. Hathwa is a quiet enough area, but within our walls, there is constant movement and noise. Even in the evenings, there is always someone studying or doing some kind of chore. It’s not a place for lounging around or being lazy. We have a lot of rules to follow, but we also have our moments of just sitting in the staff room with a cup of tea when the day finally slows down. It’s a tough routine, but it’s ours.
