Universal Public School

We are located right opposite Nirmala Convent over in Salugarah. If you know the area, you know Sevoke Road is always packed with people and cars. Our school sits right there where all that action is. Most mornings you will see the kids walking in through the gates while the tea stalls nearby are just starting their day. The building itself is pretty simple. We have a few rooms and a bit of space for the kids to stand around during their breaks. It gets quite dusty when the wind picks up, so we are always sweeping the floors. There is a certain way the light hits the classrooms in the afternoon that makes everyone feel a bit sleepy, but we try to keep things moving. We do not have a lot of the high-tech gadgets you see in some of the newer schools in Siliguri. We just use what we have. A lot of the families around here have been sending their kids to us for a long time. You get to know the parents and the siblings. Sometimes someone will bring in some snacks for the staff and we will sit in the back and have a quick tea. It is a humble sort of life. We do not try to be anything we are not. We just open the doors, let the students in, and spend the day going through the lessons until it is time to go home.
