Kamala Iron Stores

Kamala Iron Stores is situated on Sevoke Road in the Pothmal area, out here in Salgora. Being in the Darjeeling district, we see a lot of different weather, from heavy rains to cold winds coming off the hills. Our shop is full of iron rods, sheets, and all the heavy stuff builders need. It’s a tough business because everything we sell is heavy and hard to move. We spend a lot of time loading and unloading trucks that come down the road. Sevoke Road is a main artery, so there is always a lot of dust and noise from the passing traffic. We aren't a big fancy showroom; it’s more of a warehouse where you can come and see the stock for yourself. The floor is concrete and usually has some rust stains on it, which is normal for an iron store. We have a small staff who knows how to handle the metal without getting hurt. We don't have any scripted sales pitches. If a customer needs a certain length of rod, we cut it and load it. It’s as simple as that. Sometimes the supply from the mills is slow, and we have to tell people to wait a few days, which isn't always fun. But we try to be clear about what we have and what we can get. It’s a local business run by local people who understand what it’s like to build something in this region. We just keep our heads down and handle the metal.
