Jay Shree Plastics

Up here near the Town Station rail gate in Darjeeling, the weather can get pretty cold and misty most of the year. Jay Shree Plastics is located right by the tracks. You can hear the whistle of the trains passing by throughout the day. We sell all sorts of plastic items that people need for their homes. Things like buckets, chairs, storage bins, and smaller containers. The mist often rolls right into the shop during the early mornings. We have to keep everything covered up so it doesn’t get too damp or cold. It’s a small space and we have items hanging from the ceiling just to save some room on the floor. People coming from the station often stop in to see what we have. We know a lot of the porters and the drivers who work the local routes. It’s a very tight community in this part of the district. The hills are steep, so getting new stock up here is always a bit of a challenge for the trucks. We rely on the local drivers who know the roads well. Sometimes the paths are blocked by heavy rain or landslides, and we just have to be patient. It’s just part of living in the mountains. We don’t have any big corporate plans for the future. We just want to make sure the locals can get their kitchen gear. My family has lived in this area for a long time. The shop is just boards and tin.
