Our spot is right opposite the Tulip Hotel in Batapora, which is a busy little part of Shopian. Irfan Showkat Kuchay is the one who keeps the keys and makes sure everything is in order at the office. Being in Shopian, everyone knows that life revolves around the orchards. We are a producer company, which basically means we are a bunch of locals who decided to pool our resources together. It gets very cold here in the winter, and that is when we do most of our planning. During the rest of the year, we are usually out and about, checking on the crops or dealing with the logistics of moving fruit. Mericor Producer Company Limited isn't about being fancy or corporate. We are just practical people. Some of us handle the paperwork and others are better at the field work, so we just balance it out. We don't have a big marketing budget or a polished website. Most of our work comes through word of mouth and the relationships we’ve built over the years in the Pulwama and Shopian area. It can be a bit chaotic when the season hits its peak, but we’ve learned to just roll with it. We are just trying to make sure the farming community here has a solid base to work from so we can keep our livelihoods going for another generation or two without too many complications.
