You can find us at Santoesh Bhawan, right by the Secretariat area in Shimla. It’s a busy part of town, especially being so close to the Old Bus Station and the Victory Tunnel. If you’ve ever sat in traffic near the tunnel, you’ve probably seen us around. Shimla Taxi Services is basically a group of us who know these roads like our own pockets. We don’t have any corporate office with carpets, just a room where we keep our schedules and a place to sit between shifts. The noise from the bus station is always there in the background, but you get used to it after a week. We spend a lot of time drinking chai and talking about the traffic conditions or which roads are blocked by landslides after the rain. It’s a rough job sometimes, driving up and down these narrow lanes all day long. We don’t promise anything crazy, we just show up and drive. Our cars have seen a lot of miles, and we keep them running as best we can. It’s a local life, really. We know the shopkeepers around the tunnel and the guys at the bus stand. It’s not a glamorous business, but it’s what we do. We’ve been parked here for years, watching the tourists come and go from the bus station while we wait for our next turn to head out on a call.
