Being up here at Albion House on The Mall is a different world compared to the plains. Shimla has a way of slowing things down, even when we’re busy. You can’t really rush things when you have to walk up the hills to get to the office. The air is thinner and definitely colder, especially in January. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking at documents while the tourists wander past outside. It’s a strange mix, having a heavy industry office right in the middle of a holiday spot. Sometimes we look out the window and see the fog rolling in over the mountains. The office itself is an old building, the kind with thick walls and narrow stairs. We have to be careful how we move things in and out. It’s not like the big warehouses down south. Here, it’s more about the planning and the logistics side of things. We drink a lot of hot tea to stay warm while we coordinate with the factory sites. The locals know us, but the visitors just see another sign on a door. It’s a quiet kind of work most days. We close up when the sun goes behind the ridges. Walking home in the crisp air is a nice way to end the shift. It’s a good spot to work, even if the stairs are a bit much on the knees every single afternoon.
