Kare Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited

Kare village is where we all live and work. We set up this company at Sri Upkar Bind’s place in the Tola-Kare section of Sheikhpura. It’s a small block and news travels fast around here. We are just a group of local farmers who decided to pool our resources. The soil in this part of Sheikhpura is okay, but you really have to work it to get a good yield. We spend a lot of time discussing things like fertilizer prices and which crops are going to be in demand next season. It’s not a very formal business. We might be sitting on plastic chairs in a courtyard while we decide on a big sale. We don't have any glossy brochures or sales people. If you want to talk to us, you just come to the village and ask for Upkar. We are trying to make sure the farmers in our tola don't get cheated when they sell their harvest. It’s a struggle sometimes because none of us were trained in business. We just know how to grow things. We take it one day at a time. Some months are very busy, especially during the harvest, and other times it’s just us waiting for the crops to grow. It’s a basic life, but having the company makes us feel like we have a little more control over our own future. Just plain folks working the land.
