Ghatkusumbha Farmer Producer Company Limited is located over in Mapho, Sheikhpura. We use Chandramani Sharma’s place as our main office, which is house number 45. It’s a local operation, run by people who have lived in this area their whole lives. We aren't some big city firm; we’re just farmers who wanted to pool our resources. Sheikhpura can be a tough place to work sometimes, especially when the water is low, so we try to help each other out with equipment and seeds. The company is our way of making that official. When you walk into the office, you won't see any computers or fancy lights. It's mostly just folders and people talking about the weather or the price of grain. We spend a lot of time visiting the different farms around Mapho to see how the crops are doing. It's a lot of walking and a lot of dust. Chandramani’s son helps with the writing part since some of us find that bit a bit tricky. We just want to make sure the work we do in the fields actually pays off at the end of the year. There’s no secret to it, just a lot of hours and trying to stay organized as a group rather than trying to do everything alone. It gets messy sometimes but we usually get the job done.
