Krithika Moulding Crafts

Down on Old Bombay Road in Chandanagar, things are always a bit hectic because of the Bhel traffic. Krithika Moulding Crafts is tucked away at No. 10-126, and if you walked in, you’d probably see dust everywhere. That’s because making crafts and doing moulding work is naturally a dusty business. We spend hours working on different shapes, sometimes using machines and sometimes just using our hands to get the details right. It’s not the kind of place where people wear suits. We’re usually in old clothes that we don't mind getting ruined. I’ve lived around this area for a long time, so I’ve seen Chandanagar change quite a bit, but our little workshop stays pretty much the same. We have stacks of materials piled up in the corners and sketches pinned to the walls. Some projects take a long time and require a lot of patience, while others are quick jobs that we can finish by the afternoon. We don’t really do much advertising; people usually hear about us from someone else who had something made here. It gets quite warm in the back where the main work happens, but we keep the fans going. It’s honest work and it feels good to see a finished piece sitting on the bench. We just keep our heads down and focus on whatever is on the table that day. It is a slow process but we like it.
