Sangli gets really hot in the summer months, and that’s basically how we stay busy at our place in Vishrambag. We are set up right in Harshad Bungalow in the Sadguru Housing Society. It’s a quiet enough area usually, but our day starts early with the sound of toolboxes opening and vans being loaded up. We’ve been here for a while now, just fixing things that break and trying to keep people cool when the sun is beating down on the roofs. Sometimes the phone doesn't stop ringing and other times we are just sitting there organizing the spare parts on the shelves. It isn't a fancy office with big glass windows, just a practical space where we keep our ladders and gas canisters. Most of the folks around Vishrambag know where we are if they need something looked at. We don't do much fancy talk, we just show up, see what's wrong with the unit, and try to get it running again before the house gets too stuffy. Sometimes the parts take a day to come from the main market, but that's just how it goes. My hands are usually a bit greasy by lunch, and the tea from the stall down the road is what keeps us going through the afternoon shift. It’s honest work and it keeps the lights on for us. We know the streets around here like the back of our hands now and we don't plan on moving anywhere else.
