Our group is based at House Number 56 in Hisampur. That’s in the Moradabad area. Gautam Krishi Utpaad Farmer Producercompany Limited is what we call ourselves on the official documents. But to most people around here, we’re just the same neighbors who have always been farming these plots. We got together to form this company because the market was getting harder to navigate. It’s a lot easier to bargain for prices when you have a whole group behind you. We don’t have a big staff. It’s just the farmers themselves doing the work. We use the house in Hisampur to keep the papers and meet when we need to decide on something. It’s a basic setup, nothing fancy about it. Moradabad is a good place for farming, but it takes a lot of effort to make it work. We share our tools sometimes and help each other out during the busy seasons. The company is just a way to make that official. We don’t have any big mission statements. We just want to grow our crops and sell them for a price that covers our costs. It’s a lot of physical labor and some paperwork on the side. We keep things simple and try to be honest with each other about what’s working and what isn't.
