Sri Lakshmi Textiles

You have to go up the stairs to find us. We are on the first floor at 11-a, right there on the 3rd Karungalpatty Main Road in Gugai. Being upstairs means we get a little bit of a breeze sometimes, but mostly it just means we have to carry everything up and down those steps. It’s a workout, honestly. Sri Lakshmi Textiles has been in this spot for a bit, and we’ve gotten used to the noise from the main road below. There is always a scooter or a truck honking outside, but once you’re inside with the fabric, it feels different. We’ve got rolls of cloth stacked almost to the ceiling in some corners. It’s not the biggest space, so we have to stay organized, or everything becomes a mess within an hour. The light in the afternoons hits the front windows and makes it pretty warm, so we keep the fans going all day long. Most of the people working here live nearby in Gugai, so we all know each other pretty well. We aren’t trying to be some big corporate office; we just want to make sure the work gets handled and the cloth moves out on time. It’s a lot of manual labor, checking the threads and making sure the colors look right under the tube lights. That's just the daily routine for us as we try to keep things moving.
