About Manohar Handloom – Fashion & Trends in Salem
Our place is Manohar Bhavan, located at 34/14 on Devendrapuram 2nd Street. We’ve been in this same spot for quite a while now. It’s a house that we’ve turned into a space for our handlooms. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the constant thumping of the looms. It’s a sound that’s been part of this street for as long as I can remember. We don’t have fancy machines that run on electricity; it’s all manual work here. The rooms are filled with stacks of yarn and half-finished fabrics. It’s a bit crowded, and there’s always some lint floating in the air, but that’s just how it is with handloom work. We don't have a big sales team or a glossy catalog. Usually, people just know we are here on Devendrapuram 2nd Street and come by to see what we’ve finished lately. Each piece we make has a few tiny knots or variations because a human made it, not a computer. We spend our days sitting at the frames, moving the threads by hand. It’s slow work, and your back might ache by the end of the day, but we like seeing the pattern slowly come together. It’s just a family-run kind of setup in a regular house. We don’t try to be anything else but weavers doing our daily job.
