Saaz Academy is right on D.B. Road, tucked in beside the Punjab National Bank. You can usually hear us before you see us. There is always someone practicing a scale or hitting a drum somewhere in the back rooms. Being next to the bank makes it easy for people to find us, though the street noise from D.B. Road can be a lot during rush hour. We have a few small rooms partitioned off for lessons. The floors are a bit creaky and the walls are covered in old posters. We spend our afternoons waiting for the students to show up after school. It gets pretty crowded in the hallway then. We keep the instruments in cases along the wall to save space. Sometimes a string breaks right in the middle of a session and we have to go hunting for a spare. It’s not a perfectly quiet environment, but it has a good energy to it. The tea shop across the street is where we usually go when we have a gap between classes. We don’t have fancy soundproofing, just some thick curtains and a lot of patience. People come here to learn, and we do our best to help them out. It’s been our spot for a long time and we like being part of the noise on this road. We just keep the music going regardless of what is happening outside in the traffic.
