Adarsh Public School

Our school is located out in Village Bangherimahabatpur. It’s quite a different world from the big Indian Institute of Technology campus that is right next to us in Roorkee. While they have all the high-end buildings and resources, we are a bit more basic here at Adarsh Public School. The road leading to the school can be a bit bumpy and dusty depending on what time of year it is. We have a lot of kids from the local villages who walk here or come on their old cycles. The building isn't very tall, just a few floors with classrooms that catch the breeze when the windows are open. We have a playground that gets a bit muddy when the monsoon rains hit, but the kids don't seem to mind it much. Our main office is small and usually filled with stacks of registers and old wooden cupboards. It’s a simple life here. We know most of the parents by their first names because we see them every day. We don't have a big staff, so everyone ends up doing a little bit of everything. One day you might be teaching and the next you are helping fix a broken bench. It gets very quiet in the afternoons once the students head back home. We stay back for a bit to finish up the day’s work and plan for tomorrow. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. The village life moves slow and we like it that way.
