Surendra Singh’s business is located at E4 in the Balak Complex, which is in the Sagar district. The complex is a bit older now, but it’s still a central spot for many small businesses like ours. We have a small shop-cum-office on the ground floor. It’s easy to find if you walk into the main entrance of the complex. We’ve been in Sagar for a long time. It’s a place where everyone kind of knows everyone else. We don't use any slick advertising or sales pitches. People come to us because they know Surendra and they know we’ll give them a straight answer. Our space is filled with some old furniture and lots of ledgers. We still prefer writing things down in books sometimes, though we have a computer for the official stuff. The day usually starts with cleaning the front area and then waiting for the first visitors. It can be slow some afternoons, so we sit and chat with the other shop owners in the Balak Complex. It’s a community. We don't have a mission statement or any of that corporate talk. We just want to do our work properly and go home to our families. If someone has a problem, they come back and we fix it. That’s how we've always done things here. It's not fancy but it's ours and we take pride in staying open every day.
