Papneja Rice Mills

Papneja Rice Mills is located in Fatehgarh Sahib. If you head out on the Mokham Arain Wala Road, you’ll run into us. The mill sits on a good piece of land right off the main track. Fatehgarh Sahib can get quite cold in the winters, and working in the shed during those months isn't the most comfortable thing, but we make do with heavy coats and plenty of tea. The road itself is mostly used by farmers and other millers. We have a big gate and a yard that’s usually covered in husks or grain depending on what we are doing that day. The machinery is loud and shakes the floor a bit, which is something you just stop noticing after the first week of working here. We don't have any polished brochures or a fancy website. This is just a place where rice gets processed. The Mokham Arain Wala Road can be a bit dusty in the summer, and sometimes the wind blows that dust right into the milling area. We spend a lot of time cleaning up and making sure the bags are stacked right so they don't fall over. It’s a simple setup. We know the neighbors and we know the local land. Most of the people working here have lived in the area their whole lives. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing every season without fail. It is hard work but it is ours.
