Atma Devi Public School

Atma Devi Public School sits right on the Chandigarh Ludhiana Highway in Morinda. It’s easy to spot if you’re driving past. Because we’re on the highway, we get a lot of dust and the sound of trucks, but you get used to it after a while. The school serves the Mohali district area, and we have buses that bring in kids from the surrounding villages. The building is quite large and has a big yard where the buses park. Every morning is a bit of a rush getting everyone inside. We have classes for different ages, so there’s always a mix of big and small kids. The teachers here are a hardworking bunch who deal with the commute every day. We don't have a lot of extra luxuries. The desks are simple and the labs are basic. We just focus on the daily lessons and making sure the kids are safe. During the winters, the fog can be quite thick here on the highway, so we have to adjust our timings sometimes. It’s a very practical environment. We deal with the local parents and the village elders quite often. It’s not a corporate-style school. It’s just a place in Morinda where kids come to learn their subjects and play some football during the break. We just keep things moving along steadily through the academic year, focusing on the basics and making sure everyone shows up for class.
