Galla Mandi is where you can find Balaji And Company. It’s right in the middle of all the district’s trade activity. The place is always full of people moving around. We have bags of goods piled up high, sometimes almost reaching the ceiling of the warehouse. It feels like a bit of a maze in here sometimes. We handle various commodities throughout the seasons. The work is mostly manual, moving things from the trucks into the store and then back out again. We have a few guys working here who have been with us for many years. We know their families and they know ours too. It’s a tight-knit kind of place to work. The paperwork can be a real headache sometimes, especially when the rules change, but we always manage to get through it. We don't have a big sign or anything fancy out front. Most people find us just by word of mouth. If you’ve been working in this market long enough, you know exactly who is who. The tea stall nearby does a very good business because we are always ordering rounds for our visitors and drivers. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate and we have to cover everything with big tarps very quickly. It’s a bit of a scramble when that happens. But that’s just part of being in the mandi. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s a steady one.
