Sisir Sewa Kendra

You can find us on Jail Road East. It’s a straightforward location and we’ve been here long enough that people in the neighborhood know the spot. Sisir Sewa Kendra isn't a large operation. We have our sewing machines and a few wooden benches for people to sit on while they wait. The street outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, so we are always cleaning the floor to keep the fabric from getting ruined. We do a lot of repairs and sewing for the folks who live nearby. It’s the kind of place where people bring in a favorite shirt that’s torn or a pair of pants that need shortening. We don’t use any high-tech gadgets or computer systems. We just use our eyes and the machines we’ve had for years. There is a small window that looks out onto the street, and sometimes we spend a minute just watching the cars go by on Jail Road. It’s a quiet kind of work, mostly just the hum of the motors and the sound of scissors cutting through heavy cloth. We have a lot of thread spools in every color you can imagine, all lined up on the wall. Sometimes it’s hard to find the exact match, but we usually manage to find something that works. It isn't a glamorous job, but it feels good to fix something that someone thought was useless. We stay open until the sun goes down.
