Our office is right in the heart of the action, situated just above Dwarkadas Gokaldas in Para Bazar. If you have ever spent time in the bazar, you know it is a constant swarm of people, carts, and noise. We like being upstairs because it gives us just a little bit of distance from the madness of the street, even though you can still hear the vendors shouting and the motorbikes honking all through the day. The stairs leading up are a bit narrow and steep, and we are constantly carrying folders or small samples up and down them. It is a very traditional market setup. We do not have any central air conditioning, so we mostly rely on the ceiling fans and keeping the windows open, even if it lets in a bit of dust. Most of our day is spent on the phone with suppliers or double-checking the quality of what we are exporting. It involves a lot of manual tracking and writing in old-fashioned ledgers alongside the computer work. We have known the other shopkeepers in Para Bazar for a long time, so it feels like a big family even when things are hectic. We do not have a fancy front office or anything like that. You just walk in and see us at our desks surrounded by piles of work. It is a busy, cramped space but it works for us.
