Shree Varia Prajapati Pottery Works

The shop is right on M.G. Road, just opposite the Panjarapol. It’s an old part of town and we’ve been here for a long time doing this pottery work. My hands are usually covered in clay by midday. It’s just the way it goes at Shree Varia Prajapati Pottery Works. We have a lot of pots and clay items stacked up everywhere. It gets a bit crowded inside especially when a new batch comes out. Being across from Panjarapol is a good landmark because everyone knows where that is. M.G. Road is always busy with people walking past and sometimes they just stop to look at the shapes we are making. It is not a modern place at all. The floor is usually a bit messy with dirt and water. We don't have air conditioning or anything like that so it gets quite warm in the summer months. We just work with the clay and make what is needed. Sometimes things break in the kiln and that is always a shame but it happens. I think people like that we are still here on this corner doing things the old way. We don't use any big machines or anything complicated. It’s just us and the wheels and the mud. It’s a quiet kind of work despite the noise from the street outside. We just keep at it day after day and hope for the best with each firing.
