Sai Handloom

Sai Handloom is our shop in Gandhigram. We are located at Shop No. 2 in the Natraj Complex. It’s on the Gandhigram Main Road, which is almost always busy with people. We are right opposite the Sterling Hospital and close to the Gandhigram Police Station. It’s a good landmark because everyone knows where the hospital is. We sell handloom products like bedsheets, towels, and various fabrics. The shop is small and packed from floor to ceiling. We have to use a wooden ladder to reach the stuff on the top shelves. It’s a bit rickety, so we have to be careful. The lighting inside is a bit dim, but it helps keep the place cooler during the summer. We don't have any fancy displays or bright neon signs. We just put some of the colorful fabrics near the door so people can see them as they walk by. Most of our customers are locals who live nearby or people visiting the hospital who need something quickly. We spend the day folding cloth and chatting with the people who stop in. Sometimes the police from the station across the street come over for a quick chat. It’s a friendly enough neighborhood. We don't have a computer system, so we just write the bills out by hand in a small receipt book. It works well enough for us and we’ve been doing it this way for years. We stay open until late evening.
