Our shop, number 70, is located inside the Sardar Patel Marketing Yard in Dolatpara. It is a busy place, especially during the peak seasons when everyone is bringing in their goods. The yard is always full of activity, with people shouting prices and laborers moving bags around. We’ve been here for a long time, and the shop has seen a lot of history. It’s a simple brick-and-mortar space with a heavy shutter that we roll up every morning. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the ropes and handle the buying and selling. The floors are concrete and usually have a bit of dust on them from the yard outside. We don't spend much on making the place look pretty because that’s not what our business is about. We care about the products we trade and making sure our records are kept straight in our old ledgers. Sometimes we use the computer for the formal stuff, but a lot of things are still done the old-fashioned way with hand-written notes. Dolatpara is a good spot for us, and being in the marketing yard means we are close to everyone else in the trade. We drink a lot of tea throughout the day and talk to the other traders about how the market is moving. It’s a tough environment but it is exactly where we belong.
