If you are driving down the Ahmedabad Highway, you might see us right opposite the Kuvadva Police Chowky. It’s a dusty spot, as most places on the highway are, but it’s where we do all our tyre trading. Shree Gajanand Tyre Re Trading Co. is basically a place for people who live their lives on the road. We spend a lot of time watching the heavy trucks go by and listening to the sirens from the police station across the way. The sun hits the front of the shop pretty hard in the afternoons, so we usually sit a bit further back where it’s cooler. We don’t have any fancy displays or anything like that. It’s mostly stacks of tyres and the tools we need to move them around. The work is heavy and your hands stay dirty most of the day, but that’s just the nature of the business. We get people stopping by who are tired from long drives, so we keep a water pot filled for anyone who needs it. It’s a simple operation. We don’t go in for big advertisements; people just know we are here because of the location. Some days are slow when the highway is quiet, and other days we can’t catch a break with all the work piling up. We just take it as it comes and try to stay out of the heat as much as possible throughout the long afternoons.
