Sri Venkateswara Rice Mill

We run the Sri Venkateswara Rice Mill over at No. 2, Vimala Street. It’s in the Rajammal Nagar area, which is a fairly quiet spot compared to the noisy main roads. We have been processing rice here for many years. The mill is always humming with the sound of the machines, which is a sound we have grown used to. It’s a smell you get used to, the scent of fresh grain and husks. We spend our mornings checking the quality of the paddy that comes in. Our team is just a handful of local folks who know how to run the machinery properly. Vimala Street is a small road, so we have to be careful when the trucks arrive to unload. We don’t have a marketing department or anything like that. We just rely on the fact that people know we are here and they know what we do. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, but that’s just part of the job. We keep the mill as clean as we can, though some dust is inevitable with rice. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill in the state. We just want to do our work well and provide for our families. Most of our day is spent on the floor, making sure everything is running right. It's hard work, but it’s what we know. Being in Rajammal Nagar feels like being part of a real community of people.
