Vijay Bricks

Vijay Bricks has been sitting at 96 Main Road in Ramachandrapuram for quite some time now. Being on the main road means we see everything that goes by, but we mostly just stay focused on the back where the actual work happens. Making bricks is a slow process that depends a lot on the weather. If it’s too wet, we can’t dry them, and if it’s too hot, the ground cracks too fast. We have a few guys who have been with us for years, and they know exactly how to stack the bricks so they don't tumble over. It is a lot of physical labor, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired and covered in red dust. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. People just know where we are because of the address on the main road. Most of our customers are locals from Ramachandrapuram who are building a new room or maybe a small shop. We keep the gate open during the day, and people just pull in to ask about prices or to see how the latest batch looks. Sometimes the smoke from the kiln drifts over the road, which I know can be a bit of a bother, but it’s part of the trade. We just keep our heads down and keep the fire going so there is always a supply ready.
