Shriji Bricks

Out on Kotra Road in Raigarh, you will find our brick operation at the Kosamnara site. Shriji Bricks is mostly an outdoor business, so we are always at the mercy of the changing weather. When it rains heavily, everything has to slow down, but when the sun is out, we are moving as fast as we can. There are tall stacks of red bricks everywhere you look on the property. It is a very dusty and physical job. We spend our time mixing the raw clay, setting the wooden molds, and tending to the large fires in the kiln. The heat from the kiln is quite intense, especially during the Chhattisgarh summers when the air is already hot. We have workers who have been with us for many years, and we all know the daily rhythm of the work. Trucks come in regularly to load up and take the finished bricks to different construction sites all around the district. We do not have a proper office building with air conditioning, just a small wooden cabin where we keep the handwritten records and have some tea. It is a rough and ready kind of life out here. Our clothes are always stained with that fine red dust. We do not bother with fancy talk or any marketing tricks. A brick is just a brick, and we just try to make them solid enough so they do not break.
