Out here in Veena Nagar, Khopoli, we’re tucked away in Room Number 108 of the Aashiyana Appt. It’s a quiet enough spot in the Raigad district, though the industrial side of things is never too far away. Working at Uttam Galva Steels Ltd. in this part of Khalapur means dealing with a lot of local coordination. We have our small office where the files are kept and the computers stay humming all day. It’s a bit of a trek for some, but being in this part of Maharashtra puts us close to the action. We don’t have much in the way of decoration; it’s mostly just calendars on the walls and maybe a spare chair for visitors. The building is older, so it has its quirks like the occasional power flicker or a door that sticks. We spend most of our time on the phone or typing out manifests. It’s honest work, even if it gets a bit repetitive checking the same steel specs over and over. The local area has changed a lot since we started, but we’ve stayed pretty much the same. We just keep track of the steel orders and make sure the trucks know where they’re going. It’s a small team here, so everyone knows everyone else’s business. We don’t try to be anything we’re not. We just do the work that needs doing from our little corner in Veena Nagar and call it a day.
