We’ve been out here on Kherwara Road in the Khalapur taluka for a good while now. It is quite a busy spot near Lonavala and the Raigad district keeps us on our toes. Most days are pretty much the same, starting early with the heat and the noise that comes with handling steel. The guys on the floor know their way around the yard. It gets dusty, especially during the dry months, but the work doesn't stop. We don’t have fancy offices or anything like that. Just a bunch of sheds and the heavy machinery needed to get things done. People around here know the gates are usually open and there is always someone around to talk about orders. We deal with various types of steel work and it isn’t always easy, especially when the weather turns. The road outside gets busy with trucks coming and going all day long. Sometimes the power plays up or a machine needs fixing, which can slow things down, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. We keep track of everything in big ledgers and try to stay on top of the piles of scrap and finished goods. It’s honest work and we have been at it long enough to know the local rhythms. You find us easily enough if you are heading out of the city toward the hills. Just look for the signage and the sound of metal being moved around.
