Chaitanya Rice Mill

Out here in Jambhivali, things move a bit slower than they do in the big cities. We are part of the Karjat taluka and it's a good place for a rice mill. Chaitanya Rice Mill is basically just a big shed with some heavy machines inside. It gets very loud when the rollers are going and there's a fine dust of rice husk everywhere. We spend our days taking in the harvest from local farmers and processing it so it’s ready for the market. It’s hard work and your back definitely feels it by the end of the week. We don’t have a website or a fancy brochure. If someone needs their rice milled, they just drive their tractor or truck down to us. We know almost everyone around here by their first name. The weather matters a lot to us because if it’s too humid, the rice doesn’t dry right. We just keep an eye on the sky and keep the machines greased up. It’s a simple life really, just making sure the grain is handled properly. We eat our lunch together under the shade of the trees outside when it is not too hot. It’s not a glamorous job but it’s what we know how to do. We’ve been in Jambhivali for quite some time now and don't plan on going anywhere else. It is just how we live our lives.
