Sushant Kumar Ghosh

My name is Sushant and I run things here at our spot on Station Road in Jhariadih. We are on the north side of the tracks in Purulia. It is a busy enough area with people coming and going from the station all day long. I started this place because there was a need for it in our neighborhood. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. It’s just a simple room where we get our work done. Most days I am here early before the sun gets too hot. My neighbors know me well and we often chat over tea while the trains go past. Living and working in Purulia has its challenges, especially with the dust and the heat in the summer months, but it is home. We try to keep things straightforward. If someone needs help, they just walk in. There is no need for appointments or complicated forms. We handle what we can and tell people straight if we can't do something. The building isn't much to look at, but it’s sturdy and keeps the rain out. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a few hours, but we just wait it out or work by the light of the door. It’s been a few years now and we’ve seen the road change a bit, but we are still here in the same spot, doing what we do every day.
