Gyanjyoti Vidya Mandir

Gyanjyoti Vidya Mandir is located in Khazra, which is a quiet part of Keshiary in the West Midnapur district. We started this school because the local children needed a place to go every morning. Most of our staff lives in the nearby villages and they walk or ride bikes to get here. We have a few classrooms and a small playground that gets a bit muddy when the monsoon rains hit. The road outside is usually quite peaceful, except for the occasional tractor passing by. We spend most of our day managing the kids and making sure the registers are updated. It is not a fancy building with glass walls, but it works for us and the community. Sometimes we have to spend our weekends fixing the roof or painting the walls when they get scuffed up. The parents often drop by in the afternoons to talk about how their kids are doing. We sit on plastic chairs in the small office and drink tea while we figure things out. It is a lot of hard work keeping things running in this part of Midnapur. We have been here in Keshiary for a long time now. The sun gets really hot in the middle of the day, so we try to get the most important lessons done early. It is just us, some old books, and the local kids trying to get through the school year. We do not have a big office staff, just a desk in the corner.
