Husking Special

Husking Special is right here in Rathtala, just near the Lakurdi post office area. We’ve been running the machines for a long time now. Most days it’s pretty loud with the huller going and there is always a bit of dust in the air, but that’s just how it is with this kind of work. People from around the village bring their grain over and we get to it as fast as we can. Sometimes there’s a wait if the power goes out or if a belt snaps on one of the old motors. We don't have a fancy office or anything, just the shed and the equipment. It gets hot in the afternoons but we usually have some tea and keep moving. My cousin helps out most mornings when the crowd is bigger. We try to keep the floors swept but it’s a losing battle with all the husks flying around. It’s a simple setup. We know most of the faces that walk through the door because they’ve been coming here for years. We just focus on getting the rice cleaned up and back into the bags so people can get home for lunch. It isn’t the quietest job but it keeps us busy and we like being part of the neighborhood here. If you walk past the post office you’ll probably hear us before you see the sign. That’s just life at Husking Special.
